Anthony Bernhardt

Tony Bernhardt spent most of his career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, serving for a decade served as Director of LLNL’s Center for Microelectronics and Optoelectronics. In that position he worked with numerous corporate partners on technology development and earned the Department of Energy Federal Laboratory Consortium Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer. Tony has published over 45 scientific papers and holds 14 patents. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UCLA and a PhD in Applied Science from the University of California at Davis where he was a Fannie and John Hertz Foundation Fellow.

Tony is Northern California Director of Environmental Entrepreneurs (www.e2.org), an organization of business volunteers who support good environmental legislation from a business perspective. Over a long career Tony has developed a deep understanding of the science and technology of energy generation and energy applications such as transportation. His advocacy is also informed by four years at a technology start-up in Silicon Valley early in his career doing both engineering and marketing, and by his more recent angel investments. Tony was part of the core E2 team that successfully advocated passage of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) and he is currently involved in its implementation. He has also lobbied with E2 in Washington, D.C. for global warming and clean energy legislation.

Tony is a member of the Global Leadership Council of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and serves on the Board of Directors of Resources for the Future.
