Starting with a distinguished research career, at Bell Laboratories, Xerox PARC, and Stanford University, Dr. Robert Bachrach has developed innovations in various aspects of semiconductor and metal thin film deposition, epitaxial growth, and characterization of materials and related devices. Dr Bachrach served as Corporate Director of Technology and Manager of Strategic Technology and Productivity Programs at Applied Materials and was instrumental in the initiation of new corporate business opportunities from 1991-2001. From 2001-2011, Dr. Bachrach created new businesses in the AKT display equipment subsidiary, initiated the Solar Business Group, and in 2007 started Large Energy Storage Group, focused on storage for Grid Integration of Renewable Generation and the transition to Vehicle Electrification. Multiple product opportunities were defined for innovative Lithium Ion cell high loading cathode and anode electrode manufacturing processes aligned with industry requirements. LES work was awarded funding contracts by the ARPA-E BEEST Program for advanced cathodes and DOE Office of Vehicle Technologies for advanced alloy anodes. Dr. Bachrach is Applied Materials Fellow (emeritus) a Fellow of the American Physical Society and Sigma Xi. He is also a member of the IEEE, American Vacuum Society, the Optical Society of America, The Materials Research Society, The Electrochemical Society. Dr. Bachrach holds 35 patents and has authored 180 journal publications, 6 book chapters, and edited a two volume book published by Plenum Press entitled, "Synchrotron Radiation Research: Advances in Surface Science.
