Description (excerpt):
Natural gas is a fossil fuel that consists mainly of methane (CH4). The combustion of natural gas emits carbon dioxide (CO2), the primary greenhouse gas (GHG); however, methane itself is also a potent GHG, 21 times more powerful in terms of its heat-trapping ability than CO2.8 This document focuses on CO2 from natural gas combustion and processing and methane emissions from oil and gas systems, which are not the only or primary source of methane emissions.
