The energy transition – the so called „Energiewende“ – has been the prominent issue for political discussions in Germany since the beginning of the decade. While the overall political objectives are agreed among a broad so- cietal consensus, the costs and speed of the adjustment to long-term targets are currently subject to significant debate. If the German energy transition is implemented successfully, regulators and industry, both hope to pro- vide solutions of use also for other countries worldwide.
