Description (excerpt):

Converting domestic biomass into affordable fuels, products, and power supports our national strategy to diversify energy resources and reduce dependence on imported oil now and in the future. Indeed, biomass is the only renewable energy source that can offer a substitute for petroleum-based, liquid transportation fuels for the near term.

Developing domestic biomass as a clean, sustainable, energy resource for transportation fuels offers a range of significant and sustained benefits to our economy and security.
