Ivan Urlaub is the Executive Director of the NC Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA), a 34-year old membership-based non-profit serving the state of North Carolina. Urlaub brings thirteen years of state, U.S. and international experience in resolving policy, finance, communications, and economic challenges to the economically sustainable provision and use of energy and water. He is one of the Southeast’s top experts in legislative, regulatory and market-based solutions to realize our clean energy economic development opportunities. Under his leadership, the NCSEA has grown to $1.8 million budget and soon to be 15 staff. Urlaub has been at the forefront of creating state policy and market drivers of North Carolina’s clean energy economy, resulting in 22% clean energy job growth, rapid private sector investment growth, passage of more than 70 clean energy bills, and installation of more than 1,800 renewable energy systems statewide. Urlaub holds a B.A. in Political Science and Environmental Studies from the George Washington University and a Master of Public Policy and Master of Environmental Management degrees from Duke University.
