Peter Van Doren is a senior fellow and editor of Regulation at the Cato Institute. He received his bachelor of science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1977), and his masters (1980) and Ph.D. degrees (1985) from Yale. He taught at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University, from 1984 until 1991, at the School of Management, Yale University, from 1991 until 1993, and in the Public Administration Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1993 until 1997. In 1987-88 he was a postdoctoral fellow in political economy at Carnegie Mellon University.

His publications include two books Politics, Markets, and Congressional Policy Choices (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 1991) and Cancer, Chemicals, and Choices: Risk Reduction Through Markets (Cato Institute, 1999) and numerous articles in academic and policy journals .
