I am an independent energy consultant with 30 years of experience from the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Navy.

During my 22 years with the U.S. Department of Energy, I directed national renewable energy research and development (R&D) programs and projects, with particular emphasis on wind energy. My roles focused on strategic planning, domestic and international collaboration with industry, government, and NGO stakeholders, developing and leading programs budgeted at over $50 million annually, and communicating to a wide range of management, technical, and political audiences.

My clean energy expertise stems primarily from science, technology, and leadership roles supporting the rapid growth in the U.S. wind energy industry since 1995. In addition, I have held program roles in geothermal energy and special corporate assignments, such as co-leading the DOE team creating the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative in 2008. The initiative is an innovative federal/state/industry initiative that is driving major progress toward a clean energy future in Hawaii, through integrated application of efficiency and renewable technologies, in concert with policy and legislative changes needed for transforming their energy markets. In this and many similar assignments, I have brought creative solutions, strong team building, and persistent initiative to broad and complex energy sector challenges.

I began my career as an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Naval Reactors Program Office as a qualified nuclear engineer, followed by 13 years of Naval Engineering Duty assignments as a reservist, retiring with the rank of Commander.
