Dr. Qin Fne (Katherine) Zhang holds a Ph.D. degree from civil and environmental engineering of the University of Toronto, Canada. Before her PhD study at the University of Toronto, she had already received full training and R&D experience in hydropower engineering in multiple areas of civil, mechanical and electrical systems of hydropower plants at Hohai University, Nanjing, China.

She previously worked in Canada as hydraulic engineer for a hydro turbine manufacturer (Canadian Hydro Components, Ltd.), and also as Director of Technology for a hydropower developer (Riverbank Power Corp.). She currently is a R&D Staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, working on hydropower cost modeling, small hydro cost reduction technologies and techno-economic modeling, innovative hybrid pumped storage hydropower technologies and etc..
