Alfredo Garcia received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) in 1991, DEA DiplĂ´me d'Etudes Approfondies in Automatic Control in 1992 from the University Paul Sabatier (Toulouse) in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Michigan in 1997.

During 1998-2000 he served as Commissioner with CREG (the Colombian regulatory agency for Electricity and Gas) working in a variety of regulatory issues related to the operation of the Colombian electricity market and natural gas industry.

During 2000-2001 he worked as Associate with The Brattle Group in their Washington DC office. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the Department of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Virginia, where he is currently Professor. In 2015, he will join the faculty of the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Florida.

His research interests include game theory and dynamic optimization with applications in the energy and telecommunication industries.
