Bradford Swing initiated the City of Boston’s energy program and now serves as Director of Energy Policy and Programs. Boston has been ranked three times the #1 city for energy efficiency by the American Council for an Energy Efficiency Economy. Brad initiated the creation of the Renew Boston Trust, a self-funding energy efficiency project finance program, and Renew Boston, a service of the City of Boston that partners with utilities to help Boston residents, businesses, and institutions save energy. Brad also initiated the City’s smart utilities, district energy, microgrid, solar and green building programs. Brad advises the Mayor and the Chief of Environment, Energy and Open Space on all local, state, and federal energy policy issues. From 2012-2018, Brad represented Massachusetts cities and towns on the statewide Energy Efficiency Advisory Council. Brad was educated at the Harvard Kennedy School; University of Pennsylvania Law School; and Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music. Brad and his husband Tim are active members of Old South Church in Boston.
