The Department of Energy (DOE) was expected to release its grid study soon, after Bloomberg reported that a leaked version concluded renewable energy is not a threat to the grid. Today, however, Bloomberg is reporting Secretary Perry will be briefed on the study in the coming days but do not expect to see it this week. In his memo, Secretary Perry directed DOE staff to review whether wholesale electricity markets are leading to the “erosion of critical baseload resources” like coal and nuclear plants. Meanwhile, clean energy supporters are skeptical of Secretary Perry’s motives and view the request as an attempt to undermine clean energy resources like solar and wind.
