An Introduction to the Energy Transition
About two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions are linked to burning fossil fuels for energy to be used for heating, electricity, transport and industry. Rapid decarbonization of our energy system has therefore become critical, leading to a whole spectrum of activity collectively known as the “Energy Transition”.
This transition is already underway and will impact all of us. The webinar will explain the key energy sectors and how they lend themselves to decarbonisation including challenges and conditions needed. Use is made of the International Energy agency’s net-zero by 2050 roadmap to explain what is required, how it can be achieved and the role of various stakeholders. A view on the impact of Glasgow’s COP26 will be given as well as examples where progress is encouraging and where more ambition and effort is required. This webinar will introduce you to the dimensions and metrics involved as well as the key concepts and knowledge to allow you to have a holistic view of the challenge.
