Atlantic Council – Leading Oil and Gas Into a Net-Zero World
Please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Monday, September 27, from 8:30 – 9:30 am EDT for a virtual discussion on the role of oil and gas in a net-zero world. This event will launch the Global Energy Center’s new “Oil and Gas Net-Zero” project, which will build on its 2020 report The Role of Oil and Gas Companies in the Energy Transition, and examine the technologies, policies, and business models that will define the role of oil and gas in a net-zero world.
As the world pursues decarbonization and emissions reduction technologies in the pursuit of net-zero, oil and gas will continue to play a role in the energy system. This only underscores that oil and gas must also be a part of a broader net-zero conversation, and the technologies and business models needed to decarbonize the industry should not be forgotten as policymakers aggressively pursue much-needed climate action. However, oil and gas both face challenges which the industry will need to navigate as a net-zero conversation continues to evolve.
Join H.E. Mohammad Barkindo, Secretary General, Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); Helima Croft, Managing Director and Global Head of Commodity Strategy, RBC Capital Markets; and Majid Jafar, Chief Executive Officer, Crescent Petroleum for a discussion on the state of the oil and gas industry’s movement towards net-zero, its geopolitical implications, and the greater role of oil and gas in a net-zero future.
