C2ES – The Paris Agreement and the Ambition We Need

As we approach COP27, a critical moment in building the political momentum needed to achieve the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, questions are emerging as to the potential efficacy of its ambition mechanism, such as:

-How can the mechanism, including the global stocktake (GST), generate clear signals and options that facilitate enhanced action and implementation at multiple levels, in particular the national level?

-How can the mechanism generate enhanced action by non-Parties and various forms of international cooperative initiatives, as well as hold them more accountable?

-Is the mechanism, which is based on a five-year cycle, fit for the purpose to respond to the urgency and catalyze the stringent action indicated in the latest reports of the IPCC?

Join us to hear perspectives from key thought leaders, including Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Canada, and Aminath Shauna, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Maldives. (Others to be confirmed)
