D.C. Clean Energy Summit Gallaudet University Microgrid Tour

The Gallaudet University microgrid is a cutting-edge clean energy system designed to enhance energy resilience and sustainability. Developed in collaboration with Scale Microgrid Solutions, the project integrates 2 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic panels, a 1.2 MW/2.5 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), and a 4.5 MW combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP) system.

The innovative microgrid supplies the majority of the university’s energy needs, and during grid outages, it can power the campus independently. Beyond benefiting Gallaudet, the system contributes to the local community by participating in the District’s Solar for All program, providing clean energy to up to 1,500 nearby homes and small businesses.

Summit attendees joining this tour will gain firsthand insights into how microgrids like Gallaudet’s can address modern energy challenges, offering both sustainability and energy security in urban environments.
