Extreme Heat: Adaptation Strategies for Cities in a Changing Climate

Recent heat waves across the globe have smashed temperature records and endangered millions in what is likely to be one of the cooler summers in our lifetimes; it is apparent that cities must implement better cooling strategies. Join this webinar for a conversation with local experts about how cities need to adapt to climate change in order to equitably mitigate the impacts of extreme heat.

This conversation will delve into the physical and mental health effects that heat waves can have, as well as the disproportionate effect that extreme weather events have on lower-income people and communities of color. Our panelists will discuss the urban heat island effect, the legacy that discriminatory practices like redlining have on the distribution of heat and heat-induced conditions, and cooling strategies that could be implemented locally to address these issues in an equitable way.
