NBI – Nova Analysis: Holistically Valuing the Contributions of Residential Efficiency, Solar, Storage, and Flexible Loads
As residential buildings increasingly install solar, storage, and energy efficiency, these homes can provide multiple value streams to multiple stakeholders, including the utility, grid operators, society at large, and the occupants themselves. As part of a multiyear project at the National Renewable Energy Lab, researchers explored how all of these technologies can interact and captured the multiple value streams provided. Presenters will describe a new, novel workflow to evaluate the interaction between solar, storage and energy efficiency. Results from a national scale study of how these technologies interact, and how these interactions affect the economic value streams, emissions, and resilience of homes. Presenters will also cover a smaller scale case study used to prove out the metrics with real measured data and demonstrate an effective way to communicate the multiple value streams simultaneously.
