Pathways to Commercial Liftoff: Innovative Grid Deployment Overview

Join distinguished leaders from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for a webinar on May 13th, 2024 at 10:30am ET. This session will delve into insights from the recently published Innovative Grid Deployment: Pathways to Commercial Liftoff: Innovative Grid Deployment report, which covers how advanced grid solutions can help utilities and regulators respond to grid pressures in the near term – including rapid demand growth, extreme weather, and new energy generation connections. The report explores strategies to accelerate deployment of twenty commercially available but underutilized advanced grid solutions, which can enhance grid capacity while improving reliability, resilience, and affordability. These low-cost, quick-to-deploy solutions can help address near-term grid needs and serve as a bridge while new grid infrastructure is built out over time.

Through the Innovative Grid Deployment Liftoff report, the DOE aims to align public and private sector grid stakeholders via a shared fact base to inform both public and private sector investments, including upcoming DOE funding opportunities. It will highlight the pathway to deploying advanced grid solutions nationwide, as well as challenges that stand in the way and solutions that key stakeholders can act on today.

The Pathways to Commercial Liftoff Reports are the product of comprehensive stakeholder engagement and system modeling. These reports offer valuable insights, identifying key themes and interactions among various grid technologies. While they do not represent official DOE policy or strategic plans, they serve as crucial resources for decision-makers in the energy sector, investors, and a broader range of stakeholders.
