RMI – Economics of Electrifying Commercial Buildings

Commercial buildings generate approximately 16 percent of energy-related CO2 emissions in the United States and about half of the total emissions from the buildings sector. RMI’s new report analyzes electrification retrofit packages for mid-sized office buildings with packaged rooftop units — a common building type found around the United States — in four US cities (Chicago, Las Vegas, Seattle, and Washington, DC), finding that cost-effective retrofit solutions exist in each city. Authors Anish Tilak and Mohammad Hassan Fathollahzadeh will present detailed information about this study and break down the cost and grid impacts of electrifying commercial buildings in these four cities.
