SEIA – New NREL Research Shows Residential PV Adoption Timelines Improve Despite COVID-19 Pandemic

Residential PV projects in the U.S. typically require several weeks to several months from contract signing to operation. Integral to PV adoption timelines is the permitting, inspection, and interconnection (PII) processes administered by the local jurisdiction and utility. The PII process ensures safe and reliable system installation, but can be a major contributor to project timelines and costs. NREL has collected project-level data from 14 small-to-large installers; it contains approximately 337,000 projects from 2017-2021 and covers 10-25% of U.S. installs across 1,400 jurisdictions in 30 states.

Join NREL to hear about their most recent findings, including changes in PV adoption timelines over the last five years and impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. We also report on our 2021 survey of 180 jurisdictions on the impacts from the pandemic.
