Given they are responsible for almost 75% of the world’s emissions, action or inaction by G20 countries will largely determine the extent to which the world will come to grips with the climate crisis.

New research by World Resources Institute and Climate Analytics finds current climate pledges under the Paris Agreement and legally binding net-zero targets are still far from sufficient to meet the Paris Agreement’s goal to limit warming to 1.5°C. The analysis models what would happen if G20 countries set ambitious 2030 emission reduction targets and reach net-zero by 2050, to keep 1.5°C within reach and secure a safer future for us all.
