WRI – State of NDCs: How Countries’ Climate Plans Stack Up

As countries prepare to gather at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt to advance the Paris Agreement, attention turns once again to its building blocks: countries’ climate commitments, known as nationally determined contributions (NDCs). WRI’s Climate Watch platform tracks more than 200 indicators on all NDCs. The new State of NDCs report by WRI climate experts, analyzed this data to draw out key trends and evaluate how NDCs have improved and how they collectively stack up against the action needed to limit warming to 1.5°C.

Topics covered include mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, power use, land use, transport, just transitions, measures to reduce methane and much more.

Join us on Thursday, October 27 to hear from the report’s lead author, Taryn Fransen, who will share key insights on the contents of countries’ NDCs as they currently stand across the various topics and how they can be strengthened to keep the goals of the Paris Agreement within reach. In addition to presenting the report’s main findings, WRI experts will show participants how to explore the Climate Watch platform to conduct their own research and discover insights and trends at any time.
