Countries cannot hit their climate goals without addressing an often-overlooked source of climate pollution– industrial emissions. New policies can help accelerate the transition to clean industry, spurring private investment, creating jobs, and avoiding illnesses and deaths pollution causes. An emissions standard that sets declining limits on the amount of pollution industrial heating processes emit is one avenue that can make a big difference. The following policy design brief helps policymakers and advocates understand key considerations in designing a clean industrial heat emissions standard that achieves its goals while avoiding loopholes.
