Description (excerpt):

This paper reviews two promising technologies for aviation decarbonization: hybridization and using drop-in sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). Flight performance models are used to analyze range–payload relationships for hybrid-electric and SAF-fueled aircraft. Traffic demand models analyze the types and lengths of flights that can be replaced by this new aircraft fleet, and GHG emissions are compared with those of a conventional fleet.
