Description (excerpt):

The global effort to reduce emissions in commercial and industrial sectors is yielding results. Over the past decade, corporate initiatives have slowed the growth of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions to an annual increase of 0.5 percent, while global GDP growth averaged 3 percent.

Yet current efforts must scale to meet climate goals. This paper examines the strategies and innovations commercial and industrial companies are using to reduce their Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and achieve ambitious goals. Bringing together insights from sustainability leaders from organizations across various industries — including manufacturing, technology, retail and agriculture — the paper highlights the multifaceted approaches companies are using to decarbonize their operations.

Key topics include:

– How companies are deploying a blend of power purchase agreements, virtual power purchase agreements, renewable energy certificates and on-site generation to meet renewable energy needs.
– New regulatory frameworks implemented in California, Europe and elsewhere are creating structured paths and requirements for companies to disclose and manage their carbon footprint, including Scope 3 emissions.
– Key tactics being deployed by climate leaders — and the opportunities being missed by the laggards.
