Description (excerpt):

The past two years have seen several notable advances in fusion research, with private fusion companies directing their efforts towards commercialization. Fusion energy promises nearly limitless carbon-free energy with only a small amount of low-level radioactive waste in comparison to the high-level waste produced by fission power plants. This briefing note outlines the state of fusion energy research and development around the world, with a particular emphasis on the efforts to generate commercially viable electrical power.
