The near-term analysis focused on modeling the specific CO2 reduction targets and compliance options of the CPP. The mid-term analysis shifts away from studying the specific parameters of the CPP and focuses instead on understanding impacts on generation and transmission under several CO2 emissions reduction scenarios.

• MISO performed an analysis of potential coal retirement levels.
– The study identified the costs of retiring varying levels of coal capacity, driven by scenarios representing potential industry trends.
• The renewables siting process needs updating. MISO commissioned a study to inform these enhancements.
– This study analyzes transmission and resource expansion at a high level over a long period of time, with a focus on renewables and siting, driven by several emissions reduction scenarios.
• Findings from the mid-term analysis will inform the MTEP17 futures process, and MISO will continue to engage stakeholders in this process.
– Potential coal retirement levels and renewables siting information may be incorporated into the futures process.
