Nuclear energy is America’s largest source of low-carbon electricity. In 2013, nuclear energy produced 19 percent of U.S. electricity supply (789 billion kilowatt-hours). The industry’s 2013 average capacity factor was 90.9 percent, compared to 86.4 percent in 2012. This is the highest capacity factor of any source of electric power.
