Founded in 1977 by Sens. Charles H. Percy (R-Ill.) and Hubert H. Humphrey (D-Minn.), the Alliance to Save Energy (the Alliance) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Washington, D.C., with a mission to promote energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security. For more than 30 years, the Alliance has been at the center of advancing energy efficiency programs and policies in the United States and in more than a dozen other countries.

The Alliance’s role as a collaborative energy efficiency leader is reflected in the breadth of its elected board of directors, its more than 150 public and private associates, and in the extent and nationwide/community outreach of the organizations with which it regularly partners. Examples of Alliance partners include the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, state government agencies such as the New York State Energy and Resource Development Authority (NYSERDA), more than 15 state energy offices, utilities, trade associations, corporations and corporate foundations, and many regional and local organizations.

Backstopping the Alliance is a staff of 60 technical and programmatic experts in nearly every sector of energy efficiency. The Alliance has experience in designing, implementing and evaluating programs in energy efficiency financing, building codes and equipment standards, consumer education, industrial efficiency, market transformation, private sector development, and lighting and appliance efficiency. The Alliance is also deeply involved in energy efficiency policy at both the federal and state levels. Alliance staff crafted many provisions contained in the Energy Policy Act of 1992, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 and the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).


The American Coalition of Competitive Energy Suppliers (ACCES) is a group of competitive retail natural gas and electricity suppliers committed to consumer education and media outreach, in order to help consumers better understand and take advantage of the benefits of energy choice.


ACORE, a 501©(3) non-profit membership organization, is dedicated to building a secure and prosperous America with clean, renewable energy. ACORE seeks to advance renewable energy through finance, policy, technology, and market development and is concentrating its member focus in 2013 on National Defense & Security, Power Generation & Infrastructure, and Transportation. The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents 202 local energy companies that deliver natural gas throughout the United States. There are nearly 70 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S., of which 92 percent – more than 65 million customers – receive their gas from AGA members. AGA is an advocate for natural gas utility companies and their customers, and provides a broad range of programs and services for member natural gas pipelines, marketers, gatherers, international natural gas companies and industry associates. Today, natural gas meets almost one-fourth of the United States’ energy needs.

In addition to energy and environmental policy, which the program has been addressing for several decades, EEP is now actively and purposefully engaging in climate change policy – mitigating the effects of climate change, adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change, and the international cooperation needed to achieve these goals.


Launched in 2019, the Science & Society Program (SSP) was established to address critical gaps in public trust in, and understanding of, advances in science, as well as the potential impact of those advances on America’s diverse society. Through its various activities, SSP will seek to raise awareness and inform targeted audiences about present-day challenges at the intersection of science and our national community. SSP will endeavor to explain, connect, and maximize the many benefits of science, technology, and innovation, while striving to expand the audience of individuals who embrace the value and contribution of science to improving the human condition for all.

The Science & Society Program is housed within the Heath, Medicine and Society Program of the Aspen Institute. In addition to its focus on the biomedical sciences, SSP will engage with several other scientific disciplines, including the natural sciences, data science, and technology, and will explore how these fields intersect with the population at large through areas—such education, economics, and the environment—that cut across all segments of American and global society.


The Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO-USA) is a non-profit education​al organization dedicated to helping America understand and adapt to ​changing realities regarding the cost, demand, and supply of oil.

Founded in 2005 as a network of scientists, researchers, analysts, and other energy observers, ASPO-USA has grown to comprise a wide range of professionals, civic leaders, and concerned citizens.  ASPO-USA maintains a core focus on technical oil issues, but also examines their broader economic, national security, and environmental consequences, and spurs positive action to build a more secure, prosperous, and sustainable future.  ASPO-USA is the U.S. affiliate of ASPO International which has associated organizations in more than 20 countries.


Founded in 2007 by former Senate Majority Leaders Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is a non-profit organization that drives principled solutions through rigorous analysis, reasoned negotiation and respectful dialogue. The Energy Choice Coalition is an educational and advocacy organization committed to promoting competition and innovation in electricity markets without discriminating against technologies. Consumer-driven energy markets deliver better results than traditional monopoly markets or partly restructured markets by empowering the end user. The Energy Futures Initiative, Inc. (EFI) is a nonprofit organization established by former Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz to provide policymakers, industry executives, NGOs and other leaders actionable options on how to advance a cleaner, safer, more affordable and secure energy future. Through its global network of experts, EFI develops and implements analytically-based, technology-informed, real-world low-carbon solutions for the world’s growing energy needs.


The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is an independent, non-profit organization advancing innovative policy solutions to set us on a cleaner, more secure and sustainable energy path. EESI educates policymakers, builds coalitions and develops policy in support of energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable biomass, sustainable buildings, and sustainable transportation. EESI was founded by a bipartisan Congressional caucus in 1984, and its strong relationship with Congress helps EESI serve as a trusted source of credible, non-partisan information on energy and environmental issues. EESI receives no congressional funding and is supported through contributions and grants.

The Federation of American Scientists develops and advances solutions to important security problems by educating the public and policymakers, promoting transparency, and carrying out research and analysis.


The Forum for Climate Engineering Assessment’s (FCEA) overarching objective is to assess the social, ethical, political, and legal implications of emerging technologies that fall under the broad rubric of climate engineering (sometimes referred to as “climate geoengineering”). We produce high-quality and policy-relevant research and commentary, and work in a variety of ways ensure that the climate engineering conversation maintains a focus on issues of justice, equity, agency, and inclusion.


The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) is the trade association dedicated to commercialization of fuel cell technology and hydrogen technologies.  These technologies are providing uses with clean and reliable power for a variety of applications. FCHEA members represent the full global supply chain, including trade associations, fuel cell material manufactures, components and systems manufacturers, hydrogen producers and fuel distributors, utilities, universities, government laboratories and agencies, and other end users.


Fuel Freedom is a non-partisan campaign dedicated to breaking our oil addiction by removing barriers to competition to promote the development of cheaper, cleaner, American-made fuels. Fuel Freedom means that gasoline, diesel, methanol, natural gas, ethanol and electricity compete on equal footing both at the dealership and at the pump.

Achieving Fuel Freedom will lower fuel prices, create jobs, spur economic growth, reduce pollution, improve national and global security, and eliminate the need to send our sons and daughters to faraway lands to ensure the free flow of oil.


The Fuse (www.energyfuse.org) is a trusted online resource that presents timely written analysis, visual data, infographics, interviews, videos, and other content on a wide range of issues related to oil markets, alternative fuel vehicles, domestic energy policy and national security.


The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) is a non-partisan think tank whose mission is to formulate and promote public policies to advance technological innovation and productivity internationally, in Washington, and in the states. Recognizing the vital role of technology in ensuring prosperity, ITIF focuses on innovation, productivity, digital economy and energy innovation issues.


The Keystone Policy Center is a non-advocacy nonprofit that brings together diverse stakeholders to address pressing and vexing policy issues with shared, action-oriented solutions. Its Energy Board, a learning- and relationship-focused project that Keystone has managed for almost 30 years, comprises roughly 50 individuals who represent different perspectives on energy policy, encompassing expertise from the industry, technology, environment, consumer advocacy, and state and federal government arenas. The Solar Foundation (TSF) is an independent national 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1977 and based in Washington D.C. Through research and educational outreach, TSF has worked to support the use of solar energy as a clean, sustainable, and secure way to meet global energy demand. Third Way is the leading think tank of the moderate wing of the progressive movement.
