Founded in 1977 by Sens. Charles H. Percy (R-Ill.) and Hubert H. Humphrey (D-Minn.), the Alliance to Save Energy (the Alliance) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Washington, D.C., with a mission to promote energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security. The Alliance is also deeply involved in energy efficiency policy at both the federal and state levels. Alliance staff crafted many provisions contained in the Energy Policy Act of 1992, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 and the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
