Peter B. Sunderland is Associate Professor of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland. Previously he was NCMR Staff Scientist at NASA Glenn Research Center. His research interests are in combustion and fire protection, including soot formation and oxidation, microgravity combustion, hydrogen flames, laminar diffusion flames, vehicle fires, and diagnostics development. His degrees are from Cornell University (B.S.), the University of Massachusetts (M.S.), and the University of Michigan (Ph.D.). His awards include: NSF Career Award, Kent Teaching Award for Junior Faculty, Keystone Professor, the SAE Ralph H. Isbrandt Automotive Safety Engineering Award, and Best-Paper Award from the Combustion Institute Central States Section. He is a member of AIAA, ASME, SAE, and SFPE. He is co-author of over 20 journal articles and 100 conference papers.
