Stephen Bird is Associate Professor in Political Science at Clarkson University. He specializes in energy and environmental politics, social and policy networks, and U.S. politics. He has served as a consultant or expert to a variety of entities including the U.S. State Department, The European Commission, Harvard’s Electricity Policy Group, and Massachusetts’ Department of Environmental Protection. His research and publications address energy policy, policy networks, electricity governance, environmental risk, social justice, and movement politics. He was Board Chairperson for five years at the Energy Consumer’s Alliance of New England. He holds a Master’s in government from Harvard University (’03) and a PhD from Boston University (’09). He has published in Energy Policy, Poverty and Public Policy, Energy for Sustainable Development, and elsewhere. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and in private sector partnerships. His current research includes work on split incentive problems in energy policy, and the determinants of energy and environmental decision-making.
