In June 2013, the President directed EPA to regulate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from U.S. fossil fuel-fired power plants as part of his Climate Action Plan. The purpose of this paper is to assess certain “climate effects” that would result from reducing CO2 emissions from the U.S. electric sector. Our assessment, which is based on EPA analysis, shows that future climate effects are negligible no matter what level of CO2 emission reduction is required for the electric sector.
