CSIS – Hydrogen Development in Latin America: Varying Scenarios for Chile and Paraguay
Please join the Americas Program for a virtual discussion on Hydrogen Development in Latin America: Varying Scenarios for Chile and Paraguay.
In recent years, green hydrogen has emerged as a possible mitigator to the global energy crisis. Green hydrogen can maximize the use of intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar to decarbonize carbon intensive sectors like transportation and mining. Among the world’s regions, Latin America is uniquely positioned to produce large volumes of green hydrogen given its abundant and competitive renewable energy resources. Although the novelty of the industry creates a series of challenges and uncertainties, it also offers opportunities for innovation, and a path for countries in Latin America to become pioneers in green hydrogen development.
This public event will present the challenges and opportunities faced by Latin America in developing green hydrogen. In particular, the discussion will focus on Chile and Paraguay, two countries that are positioned to benefit greatly from unlocking economies of scale within their markets and enable South America to become a hub of hydrogen production and expertise.
