WRI – Navigating a Just Transition in the Oil and Gas Sector in Middle-Income Countries
As the world shifts to a clean energy economy, middle-income developing countries are in a particularly tricky position. They produce nearly half of the world’s oil and gas but have fewer resources with which to support workers and communities through the transition. There are economic and environmental benefits for these countries in shifting away from fossil fuels, but they will also face challenges in achieving a just transition. For example, oil and gas revenue often goes toward public services like education, health care and critical infrastructure.
Join this discussion with distinguished experts, practitioners and government officials from Africa and Latin America to learn about the policies that can enable a just transition away from oil and gas and how countries can work together to support and successfully manage the transition. The event will include a Q&A session.
