As a result of the power of the present generation to unilaterally inflict enormous environmental harm on generations yet unborn, there is a clear need to address intergenerational relations within international environmental law.
Deployment of solar radiation management (SRM) geoengineering technologies in the future could constitute the quintessential act of generational selfishness, compelling untold future generations to “stick with the program” or face catastrophic impacts. The potential intergenerational consequences of climate geoengineering counsel strongly in favor of doubling our resolve to address an
issue for which this generation is profoundly responsible.
